Weekly Maintenance: VIU Websites; No Service Interruption Mar 17, 2026 10:00-15:00 PDT

What is impacted: VIU Websites. Our Web team performs updates to our Drupal Web Content Management System.
Level of impact: No Interruption. While no outage is expected, saving content during this timeframe within the Drupal platform may be slower.
Timing: 10am to 3pm, every Tuesday.
Preparation: None

Weekly Maintenance: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Service Interruption Mar 20, 2026 21:00 - Mar 21, 2026 00:00 PDT

What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

Scheduled - What is impacted:Our Internet Service Provider (ISP) id installing updates on their core network systems.
Level of impact: Possible Service interruption. There is a possible 1-2 minute interruption to internet access during the maintenance window. This would impact all VIU sites and campuses.
Timing: Friday, March 13, 6 am – 6:30 am.
Preparation: Please save your work prior to the maintenance window. Be aware of the potential service interruption and plan accordingly.

Resolved - Between 9:30 pm, Thursday, March 12 and 9:30 am Friday, March 1, employees and students may not have received automated emails generated by our administrative systems. (e.g. Automated room booking emails.) This also included messages from instructors to their classes sent via our Student Record System (SRS) and its ClassList tool. The transcript exchange and ApplyBC tools may also have been impacted.

While offline, the messages to and from ClassList were queued up. These were sent to their intended recipients just after 9:30 am.
If an expected email from the room booking system did not show up this morning, please email the room booking team to follow up.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. Once updated, each system will need to be restarted. All sites and services listed below will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
- VIU email (including Outlook, webmail and public folders)
- VIU websites (including isapp.viu.ca sites, stuweb.viu.ca)
Timing: Wednesday, 5 pm to 7 pm
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 5 pm. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6 am. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.
