Scheduled Maintenance

Maintenance: VIU Websites; No Service Interruption Dec 3, 2025 09:00-17:00 PST

What is impacted: Our team is migrating milnergardens.viu.ca and technology.viu.ca to a newer version of our website management software.
Level of impact: No Interruption. No outage is expected for visitors accessing the above websites. However, editors may need support from Band and Marketing when connecting to their sites to edit content for the first time.
Timing: Wednesday, December 3, 9 AM to 5 PM.
Preparation: None

Weekly Maintenance: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Service Interruption Dec 5, 2025 21:00 - Dec 6, 2025 00:00 PST

What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Technicians are installing security certificate updates to our wireless networks across all sites and campuses. (VIU-Secure, VIU-Guest, and Eduroam)
Level of impact: During the maintenance window, connected devices may disconnect from our wireless networks. The first time you reconnect your device may prompt you to accept/trust the new security certificate before resuming your connection.
Timing: Thursday, November 27, 6 AM.
Preparation: After 6 AM, please take a moment to confirm you are still connected to VIU-Secure. If not, be sure to reconnect and accept/trust the new certificate.

Monitoring - The solution is in place, and after testing we consider this challenge resolved. Employees are once again able to sign into the employee portal and use the tools within. We will continue to monitor the fix, to ensure it remains stable as more people sign in.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Hosted Network Storage; Our team will be performing maintenance that affects our VIU hosted network storage. This includes Departmental Shares, as well as VIU computer account U-Drives, Desktop, and Documents Folders.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance window access may be interrupted to files stored in:
- Departmental Shares
- U-Drives
- Windows Desktop 
- Windows Documents Folder
These interruptions can range from 5 sec. to 10 min, and may occur several times.
Timing: Wednesday, November 26, 5 PM to 7 PM.
Preparation: Please save your work prior to the maintenance window. If needed, save copies of any needed files to your OneDrive and temporarily work off of that copy. Remember to copy any changed files back to the shared drive after the maintenance is complete.

Scheduled - What is impacted: We are updating the windows personalization settings on our student facing and shared use Windows computers. These devices will be set up with a standardized Lock/Login screen and screen-saver. Users will be unable to change them on these devices.
Level of impact: No Impact. This change will occur in the background, and should not impact anyone currently working on the device.
Timing: Monday, November 17, beginning at 1 PM. Continuing until all impacted devices are updated.
Preparation: None
