Scheduled Maintenance

Maintenance: Software Update; Low Impact Dec 4, 2025 01:30 - Dec 5, 2025 01:30 PST

What is impacted: An update is being deployed to our remaining Windows 10 Devices. This will allow these computers to continue receiving security updates from Microsoft.
Level of impact: Low impact. These devices may experience a brief slowdown when the update begins installing.
Timing: Beginning 1:30 AM, Thursday, December 4. Continuing until all devices have updated.
Preparation: Please save your work and log off your systems at the end of every work day. Do not shut down your systems or they will not receive the update.

Maintenance: Adobe Reader Update; Possible interruption Dec 5, 2025 01:00 - Dec 7, 2025 01:00 PST

What is impacted: Employee and student computers; An update is being deployed to update Adobe Reader. This update impacts any VIU Intune device where the current version is older than Adobe Reader 25.
Level of impact: Possible impact. If in use, the program may need to restart.
Timing: Beginning 1 AM, Friday, December 5.Continuing until all devices have updated.
Preparation: Please save your work and log off your systems at the end of every work day. Do not shut down your systems or they will not receive the update.

Maintenance - wordpress.viu.ca; Service Interruption Dec 24, 2025 06:00-08:00 PST

What is impacted: wordpress.viu.ca; Our team will be installing updates to the system that hosts wordpress.viu.ca.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance window the above website will be unavailable for 15 minutes.
Timing: 6am to 8am, Wednesday, January 24.
Preparation: Please save any changes and log out your VIU WordPress blog prior to the maintenance window.

Maintenance: Software Update; No interruption Dec 25, 2025 01:30 - Dec 27, 2025 01:30 PST

What is impacted: Student computers in B305-R508 and the B305 Library Commons; We are installing MestReNova chemistry software on student workstations in these areas. This will give students enrolled in chemistry-related courses more options when they need to use this software.
Level of impact: No Interruption. This software will deploy overnight, prior to the Library Commons re-opening for student use.
Timing: Beginning at 1:30 AM, Thursday, December 25. Continuing until installation is complete on all relevant devices.
Preparation: None.

Maintenance: VIU Employee Portal; Service Interruption Dec 29, 2025 10:00-15:00 PST

What is impacted: VIU Employee Portal and related tools; Our vendor is installing updates and performing maintenance on the systems that host our VIU Employee portal. This impacts tools accessed by the portal including HRIS, FIS and Procurement tools, among others.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance period the Employee Portal and related tools will be unavailable.
Timing: 10 AM to 3 PM, Monday, December 29.
Preparation: If needed, please plan to use the Employee Portal outside of the Maintenance Period.

Description: All servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
