Scheduled Maintenance

Weekly Maintenance: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Service Interruption Jan 9, 2026 21:00 - Jan 10, 2026 00:00 PST

What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Employee and student computers; An update is being deployed to update Adobe Reader. This update impacts any VIU Intune device where the current version is older than Adobe Reader 25.
Level of impact: Possible impact. If in use, the program may need to restart.
Timing: Beginning 1 AM, Friday, December 5.Continuing until all devices have updated.
Preparation: Please save your work and log off your systems at the end of every work day. Do not shut down your systems or they will not receive the update.

Scheduled - What is impacted: An update is being deployed to our remaining Windows 10 Devices. This will allow these computers to continue receiving security updates from Microsoft.
Level of impact: Low impact. These devices may experience a brief slowdown when the update begins installing.
Timing: Beginning 1:30 AM, Thursday, December 4. Continuing until all devices have updated.
Preparation: Please save your work and log off your systems at the end of every work day. Do not shut down your systems or they will not receive the update.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Employee Portal and related tools; Our vendor is installing updates and performing maintenance on the systems that host our VIU Employee portal. This impacts tools accessed by the portal including HRIS, FIS and Procurement tools, among others.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance period the Employee Portal and related tools will be unavailable.
Timing: 10 AM to 3 PM, Monday, December 29.
Preparation: If needed, please plan to use the Employee Portal outside of the Maintenance Period.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Student computers in B305-R508 and the B305 Library Commons; We are installing MestReNova chemistry software on student workstations in these areas. This will give students enrolled in chemistry-related courses more options when they need to use this software.
Level of impact: No Interruption. This software will deploy overnight, prior to the Library Commons re-opening for student use.
Timing: Beginning at 1:30 AM, Thursday, December 25. Continuing until installation is complete on all relevant devices.
Preparation: None.
