What is impacted: VIU Websites. Our Web team performs updates to our Drupal Web Content Management System.

Maintenance: Kantech FIM Webapp Updates; Service Interruption Apr 7, 2026 10:00-10:30 PDT

What is impacted: Security updates are being applied to the Kantech FIM webapp.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. There will be a 2 to 3-minute disruption to the Kantech FIM webapp during the maintenance window.
Timing: Tuesday, April 7, 10 am to 10:30 am.
Preparation: Please avoid using the Kantech FIM webapp during the maintenance window.

Maintenance: Chrome Browser installed on VIU Windows Devices; Behavior Change

Scheduled - What is impacted: We are deploying an change to how the Chrome Browser on Windows devices handle software updates.
Level of impact: Behavior Change. When Chrome downloads a new update, it prompts you with a choice. You can restart the browser to finish installing, or postpone restarting until later. You will now be able to continue delaying restarting Chrome up to 3 days. After 3 days it will force the browser to restart. This restart typically reopens all the active tabs and windows that were open previously.
Note: fillable fields in web forms will loose their content during the restart. Copy important entries into a separate document before restarting.
Timing: Beginning Thursday, April 2, at 9 am. Continuing until all devices are updated
Preparation: Be aware of the changes noted above.

Access to ArcGIS software on VIU devices - impacting both students and employees
Resolved - The vendor has resolved this challenge. Students and employees are once again able to sign in and use the ArcGIS software as on VIU devices.

Identified - When attempting to use the ArcGIS software installed on VIU computers, an "Expired License" error message pops up. Preventing further use of the program. This has been identified by our vendor and they are working to deploy the correct license.

Access to ArcGIS is still possible by logging into their website at https://viu.maps.arcgis.com/ with your standard VIU email credentials.

Estimated resolution time: Unknown. The vendor feels there is a chance it could be resolved this afternoon.
Next Update: By 3:45 pm, today.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Our Internet Service Provider (ISP) is replacing some of their core network technology.
Level of impact: Potential Interruption. It is possible that a 1-2 minute internet service interruption may occur during the maintenance window. This would impact all VIU sites and campuses.
Timing: Thursday, March 26, 6 am to 6:30 am.
Preparation: Please save your work prior to the maintenance window. Be aware of the potential service interruption and plan accordingly.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Hosted Network Storage; Our team will be installing updates to the server that manages the various VIU hosted network storage. This includes Departmental Shares, as well as VIU computer account U-Drives, Desktop, and Documents Folders.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance window, the update process will cause several disconnections to occur. These disconnections will occur 4 times, lasting anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes before reconnecting. When these disconnections happen, access to and the saving of files to the above locations will be interrupted.
Timing: 5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, March 25.
Preparation: Please save your work and sign out of your computer when you leave for the day. Do you need to access and work on files from the network shares listed above during the maintenance window? Please copy the files you need to your device or OneDrive. Continue to work on the copy until the maintenance window is complete. Please remember to copy your files back to the network share afterwards
