What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.

Scheduled - Description: Several systems that host VIU sites and services are receiving monthly updates.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Once updated, each system will need to be restarted. All sites and services listed below will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
- VIU email (including Outlook, webmail and public folders)
- VIU websites (including isapp.viu.ca sites, stuweb.viu.ca)
Timing: Wednesday, 5 pm to 7 pm
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 5 pm. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Our internet service provider is upgrading some of their core network hardware. When they take this component offline to be replaced, our internet connection automatically switches to an alternate path. However there is a service interruption while it does this.
Level of impact: Service interruption. There will be a 15 minute interruption to VIU Internet access during the maintenance window. This will impact VPN connections, remote device access, Teams calling/meetings, and access to tools/data hosted in our onsite data center.
Timing: 5 pm to 5:30 pm, Wednesday, May 13.
Preparation: Complete Teams calls/meetings, data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Due to an upcoming Windows security update, we are resetting the time zone on VIU Windows devices to Pacific Daylight Time. (PDT) 
Level of impact: Service change; Student facing devices will be locked to PDT. Employees who have previously changed the time zone on their devices will find it changed to PDT. If needed they can change the time zone back to their preferred one. 
Timing: Thursday, April 30, beginning at 6 pm. Continuing until all devices are updated.
Preparation: If you keep your VIU employee device set to a different time zone, keep an eye out for it to change. Then switch it back to the one you were using previously.

Level of impact: Device Restart Required; This update deploys in the background, and requires multiple restarts to complete. It will not force you to restart your device. We recommend saving your work and restarting your device once a week between now and June 26.
Timing: Thursday, April 30, beginning at 6 pm. Continuing until all devices are updated.
Preparation: You may find a particular day or time works best with your workflow for restarting your device. We suggest setting a weekly calendar reminder for that time, so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
