Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Network Remediation Project- All VIU technology at all VIU locations will be offline while key network technology is worked upon.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All VIU technology at all VIU locations will be shutdown during the maintenance widow. Systems effected include Email, all VIU computers, all VIU networks (Wired and Wifi), Online course work, Administrative systems (Student records, Library systems, VIULearn, VIUTube, VIUBlogs and Learnsupport), VIU Phone system, and any other VIU Technology. The Blue Emergency Phones (Code Blue Poles) will also be impacted, please use the VIU SafetyApp or call 250-740-6600 in case of emergency.
Timing: 6:00 am January 19 to 6:00 pm January 20.
Preparation: Save and close your work, then log off or restart your computer prior to the scheduled service interruption. You will NOT be able to access your account, VIU email, files, or VIU internet during this maintenance window. If you require access to any files you will need to save them to a USB drive or other storage device (not your VIU computer account or a VIU computer or VIU email). This has been communicated widely with students. However, if you work directly with students please remind them of the outage.
Investigating - We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with the following systems:

Voicemail – Employees with Mitel (VoIP) phones are experiencing intermittent issues with accessing voicemail and voicemail notifications (lights).

Network – Employees and students may get errors when logging on to VIU computers or when trying to access network resources including files on share drives, printers, VIU services, etc.

Wireless – Students and employees may be unable to connect to VIU wireless services including viu-secure, viu-guest, and eduroam.

The above issues have been occurring since early January. Symptoms are intermittent and are happening randomly in time and location.

Resolution time: Unknown. We are investigating the issues.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: Wednesday, 6:00am to 7:00am
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Currently we do not have an estimate for the resolution of the intermittent connection challenges in building 210.

Update - VIU Technicians are continuing to investigate. A number of potential contributing causes have been found and are being remediated one by one. It is possible that the actual root cause has not yet been identified.

Currently we do not have an estimate for the resolution of the intermittent connection challenges in building 210.

Level of impact: Service interruption. All wired and wireless access will be periodically unavailable during the maintenance window. VOIP phones, Shares, Email, Printing and Video Conferencing will be impacted.
Timing: 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday January 11.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Nanaimo campus network and internet services including internet access, access to network files, email, 4 digit dialing, VOIP phones, voice mail, and call flows.
Level of impact: Service interruption. All wired and wireless access will be unavailable during the maintenance window. VOIP phones, Shares, Email, Printing and Video Conferencing will be impacted. Computer log-ins may be affected as well.
Timing: time pm to time pm Day Month Date year (ie Thursday October 13, 2016)
Preparation: Complete phone calls, data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window. Have a cell phone handy in case you need to make a call. Blue emergency phones are available if there is an emergency.
