What is impacted: Inbound and Outbound mail for VIU. The server running our spam and mail services requires upgrading.
Level of impact: Degraded Performance. Sending and receiving emails may be intermittent for up to 2 hours during the maintenance window. Access to spam.viu.ca will also be unavailable during the maintenance window.
Timing: 4:00 am to 6:00 am, Tuesday May 28.
Preparation: None required. Standard mail server configuration allows for delays of up to several hours to ensure mail will not be lost.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Cowichan Employee U Drives; These U: Drives are being migrated from a server in Cowichan to one Nanaimo.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Cowichan Employee U Drives will be unavailable during maintenance window.
Timing: 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Thursday May 23.
Preparation: if your U Drive is located in Cowichan click 'Start' and 'Computer' and check if your U Drive says \\viu.int.viu.ca\users-cow (or \\eagle\), if it does then your U Drive is in Cowichan and will be affected by this change. If it says \\viu.int.viu.ca\users then your U Drive is already in Nanaimo, we still recommend you logoff at night but this change will not affect you.

Preparation: Do not attempt to submit any catering orders during the maintenance window.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Employee and student computers;All student and staff computers at VIU will receive updates to Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016, Windows 7, Adobe Flash, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader
Level of impact: Computer restart. This update will require a reboot and you may receive a system tray message instructing you to reboot, this is normal and you should reboot your computer if so messaged.
Timing: beginning 10:00 pm Friday May 17. Continuing until all computers updated.
Preparation: Software updates can cause computers to restart. We recommend that you save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.
