What is impacted: VIU Websites. Our Web team performs updates to our Drupal Web Content Management System.
Level of impact: No Interruption. While no outage is expected, saving content during this timeframe within the Drupal platform may be slower.
Timing: 10am to 3pm, every Wednesday
Preparation: None

What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

What is impacted: B250 Power Outage; The electrical meter in building 250 is being repaired.
Level of impact: Closed to occupancy. No one will be permitted in the building during the maintenance period. Devices that lost power during the outage may need to be turned back on.
Timing: 8am to 11am, Saturday, July 9.
Preparation: Before leaving for the weekend, employees in B250 save their work and shut down their computers. When returning to work after the outage, please remember to power back on your computer.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIUTube Uploads and Kaltura Capture; Creation and uploading of content will be disabled on viuvideos.viu.ca. Users can upload and record new media entries using the new VIUTube interface.
Level of impact: New Workflow for adding content. Once this work is completed, the new VIUTube platform will be accessible using the VIUTube links on the VIULearn homepage and course navigation bars.
Timing: 9am to 12pm, Monday, July 4.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Services including wordpress.viu.ca, and some services internal to IT. All VIU Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted. For the VIU community, wordpress.viu.ca would be most visible service impacted.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6am to 7am, Wednesday, June 29.
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6am. Do not use these systems between 6am to 7am.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Online Account Logins; VIU Technicians are installing security updates to our login server. Logins to VIU Online services that use the login page https://adfs.viu.ca/ may display an error message while the updates are being installed. Services that use this login include: UBW, Unit4, Hireserve, Zoom, VIULearn, Starrez, VIUVideos, Co-Cirrucular Involvement App, WeVu.video and internal VIU Enterprise Applications located at https://isapp.viu.ca/.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Unless already logged into these services, you will not be able to login to them until after the maintenance is complete.
Timing: 9pm to 10pm, Monday, June 27.
Preparation: If you need to maintain access to these services during the outage, please log into them before the maintenance window begins.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Email including Webmail, Outlook and 3rd Party Mail Apps; Technicians are updating VIU's e-mail servers. This updates the encryption used between clients and our VIU e-mail server.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed may be unavailable for up to 1 hour during the maintenance window.
Timing: 8pm to 9pm, Monday, June 27.
Preparation: You will still be able to access your e-mail during the maintenance window but you may see certificate warnings, or errors. It is recommend you close your e-mail app and wait until the maintenance window is complete. It is possible after the maintenance window some devices may still display certificate warnings. Please reboot the device and try again before contacting the IT Service Desk for assistance.

Update - Most account tools have returned to normal, and error messages should not be popping up. The only exception is the Temporary Account Creation Tool, which is still being worked on.

Next update: 10:30am, June 14.

Identified - Employees may receive a "stream not readable" error when using VIU Employee Account Maintenance Tools or the Student Record System.

Please note, the action you were doing when the error pops up, will complete.
Eg: When creating a computer account, the error pops up. The computer account will still be created, despite this error.

Technicians have determined the source of the error, and are working to remediate it.

Resolution time: Unknown.
Next update: 3:30pm, today.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Employee and student computers; Updates for Office 2016 are being installed.
Level of impact: Computer restart. Installations and restarts will only occur during maintenance windows.
Timing: beginning 1am, Saturday June 18. Continuing until all computers updated.
Preparation: Software updates can cause computers to restart. We recommend that you save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.
