What is impacted: VIU Websites. Our Web team performs updates to our Drupal Web Content Management System.
Level of impact: No Interruption. While no outage is expected, saving content during this timeframe within the Drupal platform may be slower.
Timing: 10am to 3pm, every Wednesday
Preparation: None

What is impacted:Wireless Access – Building 205- Nanaimo Campus; Technicians will be performing updates to the wireless network in B205.
Level of impact: Possible Service Interruption. During the maintenance window Wireless connections may be disrupted for up to five minutes as technicians replace or upgrade wireless systems in your area. In most cases there will be no interruption, as other access points in the area pick up the slack.
Timing: From 2pm, Wednesday October 5, to 7am Thursday October 6.
Preparation: If you are disconnected while connected to VIU-Secure or VIU-Guest Service, please wait a few minutes and the service may resume or try reconnecting to the wireless network after a short period of time.

Scheduled - What is impacted: B340 Printer renaming; As B340 is being unified with B345 we are renaming the printers to match the new building number.
Level of impact: Possible Service Interruption. There should be no interruption printing to the FindMe Printers. However if you are mapped to a printer by name, you will need to take some additional steps. After the Maintenance period is over, re-map the printer, replacing the 340 in the printer name with 345. Then remove the old printer mapping.
Timing: 1pm to 4pm, Monday, October 3.
Preparation: If you need help remapping your non find-me printer, please look at the installing a direct queue printer on the VIU Managed Print site.

Scheduled - What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Computer name change; We will be changing the computer names of workstations in B340 to match the new unified building number of B345. A computer restart occurs as part of the re-naming process.
Level of impact: Computer Restart. Your computer will restart after the name change is complete.
Timing: 4:30pm to 6:30pm, Thursday, September 29.
Preparation: Please save your work and log off, or reboot your workstation before the maintenance period starts. Do not shut down your computer.

Preparation: If you are working on in B180 using wireless, please save any documents/data prior to the start of the Maintenance window. If you are disconnected while connected to VIU-Secure or VIU-Guest Service, please wait a few minutes and the service may resume or try reconnecting to the wireless network after a short period of time.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6am to 7am Wednesday
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6am. Do not use these systems between 6am and 7am.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Windows 10 workstations; We will be deploying Windows 10 security and system updates to VIU Workstations.
Level of impact: Computer restart. . Windows updates can require a system restart to complete the installation. Installations and restarts will only occur during maintenance windows.
Timing: Beginning at 1:15 am, Saturday, September 24. Continuing until all devices are updated.
Preparation: Windows updates can cause computers to restart. We recommend that you save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.
