Investigating - We are experiencing network issues for some systems in building 120 and building 180. This is impacting some ITAS systems and Facilities HVAC controls.

Computers were experiencing issues but should now connect. They may need to be restarted to restore network and internet access.

We are working to resolve the remaining issues and will update the advisory once resolved.

Resolved - Voicemail issues appear to be resolved. If you experience issues with your voicemail please report them to the IT Helpdesk.

Update - Network and wireless issues appear to be resolved after the major network upgrade.

Voicemail issues continue. Voicemail messages may be delayed. If you receive a voicemail message that's delivery was delayed, please notify the IT Helpdesk (ithelp@viu.ca) with the date/time you received it and the date/time it says it was sent.

Investigating - We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with the following systems:

Voicemail – Employees with Mitel (VoIP) phones are experiencing intermittent issues with accessing voicemail and voicemail notifications (lights).

Network – Employees and students may get errors when logging on to VIU computers or when trying to access network resources including files on share drives, printers, VIU services, etc.

Wireless – Students and employees may be unable to connect to VIU wireless services including viu-secure, viu-guest, and eduroam.

The above issues have been occurring since early January. Symptoms are intermittent and are happening randomly in time and location.

Resolution time: Unknown. We are investigating the issues.

Resolved - Systems have been stable since last update. We are still investigating the root cause, but the issues are resolved at this time.

Monitoring - Over the past week IT has been working hard to restore VIU Administrative Systems and all services are currently stable.

The online Moneris gateway that was disabled to mitigate damage to financial records has also now been restored.

At this time IT is continuing to seek the root cause of the problems. To investigate the cause of this outage there may be intermittent disruption to services; we will provide as much notice as possible when this occurs.

NOTE: service MAY be disrupted at 12:00 pm (noon) TODAY.

If any error messages or unexpected system behaviours occur outside of the expected disruption time frames, please report them to the IT helpdesk immediately.

Update - We continue to experience challenges with VIU Administrative Systems (my student record, SRS, VIUWEB, etc).

You may continue to experience intermittent service outages and web site functionality challenges throughout the day. As a safety precaution all online hosted credit card payment options are currently disabled and we are posting an advisory on the VIU website so people attempting to access these systems are aware of the service interruption.
