What is impacted: VIU Services including ithelp.viu.ca, learnsupport.viu.ca, wells.viu.ca and wordpress.viu.ca
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6:00 am to 7:00 am Wednesday
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems between 6:00am to 7:00am.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Account Logins. Logins with VIU accounts to the following services: UBW, Unit4, Hireserve, Zoom, LibApps.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Logins to the above we may be slightly delayed or may fail.
Timing: 10:00 pm until 10:30 pm, Thursday May 21.
Preparation: Please login to these services before the maintenance window, if you need access to them during the maintenance window.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VPN access. VIU VPN connections will be unavailable while Security Certificates are updated on the Server.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. VPN will be unavailable for 30 minutes.
Timing: 10:00 pm until 10:30 pm, Thursday May 21.
Preparation: Please disconnect from the VPN before the maintenance window and wait until afterwards before re-connecting.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Inbound and Outbound mail for VIU. The Barracuda spam server requires an increase in disk capacity. This upgrade can take up to 3 hours, but will likely require less time than that.
Level of impact: Degraded Service. Sending and receiving external emails to VIU may be intermittent for up to 3 hours during the maintenance window. Standard mail server configuration allows for delays of up to several hours to ensure mail will not be lost.
Timing: 8:00 pm to 11:30 pm Wednesday May 29.
Preparation: None required.

Scheduled - What is impacted: A change to the Default Password format. The default password format will be changing for new staff windows accounts. Appointment Creators and Helpdesk staff will need to familiarize them selves with the new password format after the update. The new password format will be described on the new account creation details page that is generated after the new account is created.
Level of impact: Service Interruption.
Timing: 7:45 am to 8:00 am, Monday May 18.
Preparation: : Please plan to not create new accounts during the maintenance window. If you have any documentation that references the old default password format, it will need to be updated to describe the new default password format.
