Scheduled - What is impacted: All VIU technology including email, files, VIULearn, printing, internet, etc. A complete list of services is included below.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: Wednesday 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Description: All servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 5:00pm. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Services that may be unavailable for up to 15 minutes between 5:00pm to 6:30pm:
- VIU email (including Outlook, webmail and public folders)
- VIU websites (including www2.viu.ca, isapp.viu.ca sites, InVIU, student pay-for-print website, viuresidences.ca, stuweb.viu.ca)

Scheduled - What is impacted: Network Outage for VIU network Resources (VPN/U-Drive, etc). Technicians will be performing network maintenance on the connection to our main Data Center. This outage may affect access from all VIU Campus locations as well as connections coming from off campus, including access to U drive, VPN, shared files, email, and VIU internal web sites. Internet access on site will not be impacted.
Level of impact: Service interruption. The data center network connection may be unavailable for a 1-2 minutes period during the service window as the technician performs maintenance on the equipment.
Timing: 6am to 7am, Tuesday, January 12.
Preparation: Please Save and log off from your computer before the outage window. Complete data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window.

Investigating - VIU’s main phone system in Nanaimo is down, any incoming calls will get a Fast/Busy signal.

The main Nortel phone exchange system is off-line. VIU and Vendor technicians are investigating.

Mitel phones on the Nanaimo campus may still call/received calls from other VIU Mitel phones. However they cannot send receive external calls.

Resolution time is currently unknown.

Next update will be by 4:00pm today.

Scheduled - What is impacted: : Fax Lines on Cowichan Campus. Incoming and outgoing faxes will not be available in Cowichan Faxes will not be queued, and will need to be resent after the maintenance period.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All Cowichan fax lines will be down during the maintenance window.
Timing: 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Friday, January 8.
Preparation: Please send faxes outside of the outage window. If you are expecting to receive faxes, request sources to send outside of the outage window.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Mitel Phone System Outage for all sites and campuses, including all teleworkers (those who have VIU Mitel phones at home) and softphone users . During the outage, anyone who calls a VIU Mitel phone will receive a fast/busy signal. No outgoing calls will be possible from any Mitel phones or softphones, nor will Mitel Voicemail be available. (There will be no impact on Nortel phones.)
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Mitel phones systems will be unavailable.
Timing: 4pm to 11:59pm, Thursday, January 7.
Preparation: Plan to complete all phone calls prior to the maintenance window. Have a cell phone handy in case you need to make a call.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Network Outage for the 4th Floor of Building 305. Technicians will be performing network maintenance. This outage will affect both wired and wireless network access. You will not be able to remote into desktop computers located on the 4th Floor of B305. VOIP phones on this floor will not have dial tones and will not work. Inbound calls will go t Voicemail.
Alertus Emergency Notification on computers in B305-4th Floor will be affected. Other emergency messaging systems will still be functional.
Your VPN connection from home to the VIU network in general will still work. Your U drive, network share drives, ect will still be accessible, if accessed from outside of B356.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. The network in the above areas will be unavailable for up to 6 hours during the maintenance window.
Timing: 1pm to 7pm, Tuesday, January 5.
Preparation: Complete phone calls, data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window. Have a cell phone handy in case you need to make a call. Blue emergency phones are available if there is an emergency.
