What is impacted: Our applications team are deploying semi-weekly updates to the following tools/applications:
- Building Inventory System (BIS)
- Key Request application
- Lockers application
Level of impact: No Interruption. These updates will occur in the background and should not interrupt your work.
Timing: 9 am to 5 pm, every Tuesday and Thursday.

Weekly Maintenance: VIU Websites; No Service Interruption May 19, 2026 10:00-15:00 PDT

What is impacted: VIU Websites. Our Web team performs updates to our Drupal Web Content Management System.
Level of impact: No Interruption. While no outage is expected, saving content during this timeframe within the Drupal platform may be slower.
Timing: 10am to 3pm, every Tuesday.
Preparation: None

Weekly Maintenance: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Service Interruption May 22, 2026 21:00 - May 23, 2026 00:00 PDT

What is impacted: IT Client and Ticket Portals; Every Friday our vendor performs maintenance on the servers hosting the IT Ticket System (https://ithelp.viu.ca) and the IT Client Portal (https://technology.viu.ca).
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the above sites/services during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9pm to 12:00 am, every Friday.
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Network/Internet connectivity on all VIU campuses, VIU Data Center Access, Shared Drive Access.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Internet and VIU network connectivity may be unavailable or inconsistent for up to two (2) minutes during the maintenance window. This effects all sites/campuses and impacts services such as VPN connections, Network share drive access, Teams Calling, web browsing, etc..
Timing: 6 am to 7 am, Thursday, May 14.
Preparation: Please save any shared folder data or remote files you may be working on prior to the 06:00am window.

Scheduled - Description: Several systems that host VIU sites and services are receiving monthly updates.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Once updated, each system will need to be restarted. All sites and services listed below will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
- VIU email (including Outlook, webmail and public folders)
- VIU websites (including isapp.viu.ca sites, stuweb.viu.ca)
Timing: Wednesday, 5 pm to 7 pm
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 5 pm. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Our internet service provider is upgrading some of their core network hardware. When they take this component offline to be replaced, our internet connection automatically switches to an alternate path. However there is a service interruption while it does this.
Level of impact: Service interruption. There will be a 15 minute interruption to VIU Internet access during the maintenance window. This will impact VPN connections, remote device access, Teams calling/meetings, and access to tools/data hosted in our onsite data center.
Timing: 5 pm to 5:30 pm, Wednesday, May 13.
Preparation: Complete Teams calls/meetings, data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window.
