What is impacted: IT Helpdesk Client Ticket Portal: https://ithelp.viu.ca
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Employees will be unable to access the IT Helpdesk Client Portal to check the status of their IT requests during the maintenance window.
Timing: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thursday March 30
Preparation: None required. If you need to submit an IT Request during the maintenance window please e-mail ithelp@viu.ca. Once the maintenance is complete, an IT request will automatically be created based on your e-mail and you will be e-mailed a ticket number.

What is impacted: InVIU website used for employee pro D calendar, food services calendar, and employee classifieds
Level of impact: Possible Service interruption. The InVIU site (https://inviu.viu.ca) may be unavailable during the maintenance window.
Timing: 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Thursday, March 30th.
Preparation: Complete any InVIU submissions prior to 3pm.

What is impacted: VIU employee email accounts.
Level of impact: No interruption. We do not expect there to be any impact however we will be monitoring email flow for any interruption to service.

What is impacted: Welcome Centre incoming call flow
Level of impact: No Interruption. The incoming call flow will change but no interruption to service is expected.
Timing: 11:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon), Friday March 31.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Employee and student computers; upgrading software including Windows, Internet Explorer, Adobe Flash Player, and Java 8 update 111.
Level of impact: Computer restart. Installations and restarts will only occur during maintenance windows.
Timing: beginning 10:00 pm to 6:30 am, Saturday March 18. Continuing for up to 2 weeks until all computers updated.
Preparation: Software updates can cause computers to restart. Please save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer; you must be logged off to receive updates. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.

Timing: Wednesday, 6:00am to 7:00am
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Level of impact: Service interruption. Employees and students may be unable to log on to computers or access wireless services for up to 20 minutes during the maintenance window. If they are already logged on or connected to the wireless they will not experience an interruption to service.
Timing: 4:35 pm to 5:00 pm, Thursday March 23.
Preparation: If you need computer or wireless access during the maintenance window, log on to a computer or connect to wireless prior to the maintenance window beginning.

Level of impact: No interruption expected however if an issue occurs during the maintenance VIU network services listed above may be unavailable for up to 10 minutes.
Timing: 4:30 pm to 4:45 pm, Thursday March 16
Preparation: Save your work prior to the maintenance window to avoid any data loss should an issue occur.

Identified - VIU’s is continuing to experience issues with wireless service at all VIU campuses and sites. Employees and students may be unable to connect to wireless.

Technicians have identified the issue and are working with the vendor to find a solution. Resolution time is currently unknown.

Timing: 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm, Thursday March 16
Preparation: Complete phone calls, data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window to avoid interruption.

Resolved - We believe the computer log in issue has been resolved. Affected users may need to restart their computers to be able to log in.

Please contact the IT Helpdesk, local 6300, if you continue to experience log in issues after restarting your system.

Investigating - VIU is currently experiencing issues with logging in to computers. Some employees and students are unable to log in and some are getting errors indicating no login servers available.

Workaround: If you are unable to log in, please restart your computer. If you are still unable to log in, try logging in to a different computer.

Our technicians are investigating. Next update 9:30 am.
