Parpecut Print Services Outage Oct 29, 10:00-22:00 PDT
What is impacted: Parpecut Print Services Outage. The Papercut Payment Gateway module is being installed on our Papercut Server. This is in preparation for the rollout of Papercut to Students. During this maintenance period Staff and Faculty will be unable to use Papercut Printing, Copying, or Scanning.
Level of impact: Service interruption.
Timing: 10:00am to 10:30am, Thursday, October 29.
Preparation: Please print or scan any urgent documents that cannot wait until 10:30am before hand

Scheduled Maintenance – Thursday, October 29
What is impacted: All VIU technology. VIU IT is performing a major upgrade to our centralized storage system to improve performance, reliability and security in preparation for a capacity upgrade. Access to network shares such as U Drives, My Documents, Desktop Files and Department Shares will disconnect/reconnect four times during the maintenance window for up to 5 minutes. Your ability to log into cloud based services that use you VIU Credentials may also be impacted during the maintenance window.
Level of impact: Service interruption. IT Services and Servers may appear unresponsive for up to 30 seconds, twice, during the maintenance window.
Timing: 9:00pm to 1:00am, Thursday, October 29.
Preparation: Please logoff your computer when you leave for the day. If you need to access and work on files from the network shares listed above during the maintenance window, please copy them to a USB Thumb Drive and work on them from there until the maintenance window is complete. Please remember to copy your files back to the network share afterwards. If you need to access any cloud services during the maintenance window please login to them before the maintenance starts and do not logoff until after the maintenance is complete

What is impacted: Employee desktop computers; Microsoft Office Updates for VIU Campus Employee Computers.
Level of impact: Computer restart. Installations and restarts will only occur during maintenance windows.
Timing: Beginning 1:00am, Saturday, October 31 and continuing until all computers have been updated.
Preparation: Software updates can cause computers to restart. We recommend that you save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Network Outage for Building 130 and Building 320 – Music Lab. Technicians will be performing network maintenance. This outage will affect both wired and wireless, and Internet access from the building, including access to U drive, shared files, email, web sites.
Level of impact: Service interruption. The network in the above areas will unavailable for up to 1 hour.
Timing: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Wednesday, October 28.
Preparation: Please Save and log off from your computer before the outage window. Complete data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6:00 am to 7:00 am Wednesday
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems between 6:00am to 7:00am.

Level of impact: A computer restart may be required.
Timing: beginning 1am, Saturday, October 17. Continuing until all computers updated.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Adobe License change. With a change to their licensing model, VIU’s older Adobe Acrobat Pro and Creative Cloud licenses (prior to 2020) will be expiring at the end of November. This means Users will need to change over to the new 2020 version of their software before then.
Level of impact: License change. Old version of license will expire at the end of November.
Timing: Please start down the upgrade path today, so everyone can be updated by November 30.
Preparation: Please email ithelp@viu.ca with your computer name to start the process of upgrading your Adobe Acrobat Pro. Adobe Creative Cloud users should channel their upgrade requests through their managers to IT.

Scheduled - What is impacted:Wired, Wireless (excluding VIU-Guest and EduRoam) networks or VPN on all Campuses; IT is performing security updates to a key network service. Any new attempts to connect to the these networks during the maintenance will fail. Anyone connected before the maintenance window starts will remain connected.
Level of impact: No new network connectivity;
Timing: 8:00pm to 9:00pm, Thursday, October 15.
Preparation: For computers on Campus, connect and power on any wired devices or connect any wireless devices before the maintenance window. For computers off Campus using VPN, connect to VPN before the maintenance window. Do not allow devices to go to sleep or power down during maintenance window if you wish to keep network connectivity. If a device is unable to connect after the maintenance window, please reboot it and try again and then contact ithelp@viu.ca.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Windows accounts for people without active employments or Non-Employee records may get disabled if they do not meet the rules of the Purge/Disable script. No one with an active appointment in UBW should lose access to their account. Computer accounts are only being disabled for inactive users.
Level of impact: Possible Service Interruption.
Timing: 6:45pm , Thursday, October 15.
Preparation: None required. Curious staff can check their appointment status in UBW under Reports -> My Position Report.
