What is impacted: VIU Services including ithelp.viu.ca, learnsupport.viu.ca, wells.viu.ca and wordpress.viu.ca
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6:00 am to 7:00 am Wednesday
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems between 6:00am to 7:00am.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU wireless networks VIU-Secure, VIU-Guest and EduRoam – Technicians will be installing updates to our wireless authentication server. There should be no interruption to user connectivity.

Monitoring - Technicians have a fix in place, and are monitoring it to confirm it is working.

IF you still cannot connect to Network Drives or if you Student Computer Profile looks odd when logging in on campus, please reboot the computer and try again.

Investigating - Employees and students may be unable to access VIU Network Drives such as U-Drives and Network Shares.

If you are on-site on a VIU computer, please try login off , and back on. This should restore your access.
From off-site access over VPN, please try turning the VPN off, wait a few seconds, and then re-connect.

If the above steps do not restore your access, please contact the IT Service Desk.

The issue started occurring at 10am. If you have logged in any time after 10am today, you should not be impacted.

Resolution time is currently unknown.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. SRS and related e systems will be unavailable during maintenance window.
Timing:12am, Saturday, July 17 to 11:59pm, July 18.
Preparation: Please complete any work in SRS and log out prior to the maintenance window. Wait until after the maintenance window to log back in.

Investigating - Currently employees cannot make a VPN connection to the VIU network via tunnel.viu.ca.

Technicians are currently investigating.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Access to VIU Network Shared Drives – Technicians will be performing changes to improve security when employees access VIU Network Drives. There should be no interruption in access while the changes are made.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Global Protect VPN Service – IT is performing updates the GlobalProtect VPN tool. The software will update automatically on employee devices.
Level of impact: Service interruption. During the maintenance window, employees may be disconnected from VPN, and have to re-connect.
Timing: 12am to 12:10am, Thursday, July 15.
Preparation: If working remotely via VPN, please save your work prior to the maintenance window.
