Scheduled - What is impacted: https://survey.viu.ca/ is being upgraded and archived. If you have previously used https://survey.viu.ca/ to run surveys and have not backed up your data please do so by March 15, 2021. After March 15, 2021, please contact Brandon Nelson to arrange retrieving your survey data which will remain available, by request, until March 31, 2023. After March 31, 2023 https://survey.viu.ca/ will be shut down and decommissioned.
Level of impact: Service Decommission.
Timing: 10am, Thursday, February 25.
Preparation: Login to https://survey.viu.ca/admin and export your data before March 15, 2021. If you require assistance please contact Brandon Nelson at Brandon.Nelson@viu.ca.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Network Outage for the 3rd Floor of Building 180. Technicians will be performing network maintenance. This network outage will affect both wired and wireless, and Internet access from within the building, including access to U drive, shared files, email, web sites. You will not be able to remote desktop into a computer located on the 3rd Floor of B180. VPN connection from home will still work. Your U drive and network shares will still be accessible, if accessed from outside of B180-3rd Floor. VOIP phones will not have dial tones and will not work. Electrical/power will not be affected. Alertus Emergency Notification on computers in B180-3rd Floor will be impacted (other emergency messaging systems will be functional.)
Level of impact: Service interruption. The network in the above areas will be unavailable for up to 4 hours on day indicated.
Timing: 1pm to 5pm, Wednesday, February 24.
Preparation: Please save and log off from your computer before the outage window. Complete data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window.

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Services including ithelp.viu.ca, learnsupport.viu.ca, wells.viu.ca and wordpress.viu.ca
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: 6:00 am to 7:00 am Wednesday
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems between 6:00am to 7:00am.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Up to 15 Minute Outage from 7AM to 8AM and Two to Five Minute Rolling WIRELESS Outage for All Sites from 8AM to 11AM. Technicians will be performing wireless network maintenance. This will impact the wireless network and Internet access via wireless including access to U drive, shared files, email, web sites. This will not affect desktop computers on campus, or any wired laptops. Remote desktop connections from off campus will not be affected. VPN connection, U drive access, and network shares from home will still work. VOIP phones will not be affected. Electrical/power will not be affected. Alertus Emergency Notification on wired computers will not be affected.
Level of impact: Service interruption for up to 15 minutes from 7AM-8AM and Service interruption for up to 5 minutes from 8AM-11AM. The wireless network in your area may be unavailable or degraded for up to 5 minutes during the outage window. Should you experience this, please try again in a few minutes.
Timing: 7am to 11am on Tuesday, February 23.
Preparation: Use a wired connection OR if you are using a wireless connection, complete data transfers, email send/receive prior to the maintenance window, save and log off from your computer before the outage window.

Investigating - VIU’s main phone system in Nanaimo is down, any incoming calls will get a Fast/Busy signal. NO outbound calls can be made.

The main Nortel phone exchange system is off-line. VIU and Vendor technicians are investigating.

Mitel phones on the Nanaimo campus may still call/received calls from other VIU Mitel phones. However they cannot send or receive external calls.

Resolution time is currently unknown.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Mitel Phone System Outage for all sites and campuses, including all teleworkers (those who have VIU Mitel phones at home) and softphone users. During the outage, anyone who calls a VIU Mitel phone will receive a fast/busy signal. No outgoing calls will be possible from any Mitel phones or softphones, nor will Mitel Voicemail be available. (There will be no impact on Nortel phones.)
Level of impact: Service interruption. Mitel phones systems will be unavailable, including teleworker and softphone models.
Timing:4pm on Wednesday, February 17 until 2am on Thursday, February 18.
Preparation: Plan to complete all phone calls prior to the maintenance window. Have a cell phone handy in case you need to make a call. Blue emergency phones are available if there is an emergency.
