Thank you for your patience while VIU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) completed the network remediation planned for this outage. Our technicians, vendors and many from the VIU community have worked through the weekend to complete this portion of the Network Remediation Project.

All VIU technology systems are back online and functioning, and VIU technicians are continuing to monitor the network and the health of our IT systems.

If you notice any challenges this week that you feel may be related to the network changes this weekend please email ithelp@viu.ca. When sending in your email we ask that you make the subject line NRP0119, as this will assist the Helpdesk in assigning the tickets generated by your emails.

ITS would like to take this time to thank everyone in our VIU community for their support and understanding during this project. The positive support we have received has been nothing short of fantastic, and we are ever grateful for it.

What is impacted: VIU Network Remediation Project- All VIU technology at all VIU locations will be offline while key network technology is worked upon.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All VIU technology at all VIU locations will be shutdown during the maintenance widow. Systems effected include Email, all VIU computers, all VIU networks (Wired and Wifi), Online course work, Administrative systems (Student records, Library systems, VIULearn, VIUTube, VIUBlogs and Learnsupport), VIU Phone system, and any other VIU Technology. The Blue Emergency Phones (Code Blue Poles) will also be impacted, please use the VIU SafetyApp or call 250-740-6600 in case of emergency.
Timing: 6:00 am January 19 to 6:00 pm January 20.
Preparation: Save and close your work, then log off or restart your computer prior to the scheduled service interruption. You will NOT be able to access your account, VIU email, files, or VIU internet during this maintenance window. If you require access to any files you will need to save them to a USB drive or other storage device (not your VIU computer account or a VIU computer or VIU email). This has been communicated widely with students. However, if you work directly with students please remind them of the outage.
