The upgrade to VIU’s core technology infrastructure is complete. Technology services are restored and employees and students can now start logging in to VIU computers and accessing other VIU technology services.

GETTING STARTED
There are some services that have changed and will need updating. All employees should follow the below steps.*
1. Restart your computer PRIOR to logging in. This will help resolve most issues that you may experience. If you are unable to log in, try viu\username and report to ithelp@viu.ca.
2. Connect ALL laptops to the network using a network cable prior to turning on your laptop and logging in. Restart your laptop if you experience issues.
3. When opening Outlook for the first time you may be prompted to create your Outlook account.
- If you have Outlook settings you do not want to lose (quick parts, signature, additional mailboxes) – close the window. Report the issue to ithelp@viu.ca (include your computer name). Use webmail until we contact you.
- If you DO NOT have Outlook settings you want saved, complete the Outlook setup.
4. When opening Outlook for the first time you may get prompted for credentials.
- Close the credential window. Do not enter your username/password, it will not work.
- Allow Outlook to fully load then shut down Outlook.
- Open Outlook again. You should not be prompted for credentials.
5. You may have to reconfigure your wireless settings.
6. Reconfigure your VIU email on your mobile devices (iPhone, Android phones, tablets, laptops). settings are changing.
7. Reconfigure your VPN settings. Some settings are changing.
8. Mac users may need to update your wireless username, outlook username, VPN connection and share/U drive username to viu\username. If you use Apple Mail, remove and re-add your exchange email.
9. When accessing VIU sites and services username and password may not work.
- Refresh page and try logging in again.
- If still not working, enter vui\username and report site URL to ithelp@viu.ca.

REPORTING ISSUES
IT has attempted to test as many technology services as possible, however, there may still be some services that experience minor issues. Please report issues by emailing ithelp@viu.ca and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Due to high call volumes, we expect longer than normal response times. Be sure to include the below information when reporting an issue to avoid delays:
- your computer name
- the technology service name and URL that you are trying to access (ie: Outlook webmail OR pay print, payprint.viu.ca)
- the error message you are getting and the issue in detail.

What is impacted: ALL VIU technology services will be unavailable. This includes (but is not limited to):
• All email including Outlook and Webmail
• All employee and student computers
• All files
• All network connectivity, including WIFI and VPN
• All administrative systems including SRS, FRS, Library, StarGarden
• VIULearn (D2L)
• All student and employee printing
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All VIU technology services will be unavailable during the maintenance.
Timing: Starting 10:00 pm Friday June 23. Services are expected to be restored mid-afternoon on Monday June 26.
Preparation: Save and close your work, then log off or restart your computer prior to 10:00 pm on Friday June 23. You will be unable to access your account, email, files, or VIU internet during this maintenance window. If you require access to any files you will need to save them to a USB drive or other storage device (not your VIU computer account or a VIU computer).
After: Once IT announces that services have been restored, restart your computers prior to logging on. Reconfigure any mobile devices (iPhone, Android phones, tablets) to use email. Some settings are changing. Reconfigure any computers you have set up to use VPN. Some settings are changing.
