Maintenance: Software Update; Computer Restart Feb 9, 22:00 - Feb 25, 06:30 PST
What is impacted: Employee and student computers; updating software for security improvements including Windows 7, Office 2013 and 2016, Firefox 54.6.1, Java 8UPD162, and Flash player 28.0.0.161
Level of impact: Computer restart. Installations and restarts will only occur during maintenance windows.
Timing: beginning 10:00 pm to 6:30 am, Friday February 9. Continuing until all computers updated.
Preparation: Software updates can cause computers to restart. We recommend that you save and close your work at the end of every day then log off or restart your computer. Do not shut down your computer systems or they will not receive the updates. Your system may not update the first night and may update any of the following nights depending on update load.

What is impacted: VIU Administrative systems including SRS, FRS, HR/Payroll, CE Web registration, CESB, Document Portal, Planning, Library, Moneris payment system and more.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All Administrative systems will be unavailable during maintenance window.
Timing: 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm, Wednesday February 27.
Preparation: Save all work and close these systems and all applications connected to these systems prior to the maintenance window. Do not use these systems during the maintenance window.

What is impacted: VIU Services including Library Catalog, VIUBlogs, Mediawiki, Meta Project, VIU Contribute websites.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: Wednesday, 6:00am to 7:00am
Description: All Linux servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 6:00am. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Level of impact: No Interruption. Low impact. Computers will not require a restart.

Scheduled - What is impacted: All outgoing/incoming external email; all outgoing emails from VIU employees to external VIU contacts AND all incoming email being sent by external VIU contacts to VIU employees.
Level of impact: Service Delay. All incoming/outgoing external e-mail will be held during the maintenance window. External e-mail delivery will resume after the maintenance window is complete. No e-mail will be lost.
Timing: 10:00 am until 12:00 pm (noon), Friday February 16.
Preparation: Send any urgent outgoing external email prior to the maintenance window.

Resolved - This issue has now been resolved.

Devices can now connect to wireless services including viu-secure, viu-guest, and eduroam.

Investigating - We are experiencing issues with the viu-secure, viu-guest, and eduroam wireless access services.

Existing wireless connections may be intermittent. New connections will not be able to connect. If you are unable to connect to wireless use a computer that is connected to the network with a wire. If you are using a mobile phone you may need to use your cellular data.

Resolution time: We are working towards a solution. However, resolution time is currently unknown.
Updates: Next email update will be by 4:15 pm today, Tuesday February 13.
