Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Administrative Systems; Including SAWS & SAWS Reporting, Gradebook, BUDSAL, Homestay, and Finance Managers’ Reports.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. Software locations may be changed, bookmarks may be out of date.
Timing: Friday December 15, 12:00 pm
Preparation: Users should heed ‘software has moved, please update your bookmarks’ messages – these messages will disappear.

Level of impact: Software Retirement – All modules
Timing: Friday, December 15, 12:00 pm

Scheduled - What is impacted: Nanaimo campus; All campus buildings except Student Residences and Building 350 (The High School)
Level of impact: Power Outage Preparation. The Facilities department has scheduled an electrical shutdown as part of required maintenance on Wednesday, December 27th. Power and network will be unavailable in the impacted buildings.
Timing: Any time before Friday, December 22, 3:00 pm
Preparation: Shut down all computers, monitors, printers, departmental multi-function units, and peripherals prior to leaving for the Christmas 2017 break. Unplug systems if possible. IT will be working with different areas to power off student use and instructional computers.

Scheduled - What is impacted: Old VPN Service (vpn.viu.ca)
Level of impact: Service Retirement. VIU IT is shutting down the old VPN server as it is now obsolete and has been replaced with a faster, more secure, solution.
Timing: Thursday, 10:00 am
Preparation: Verify you are configured to use the new VPN service (tunnel.viu.ca) and not the old one (vpn.viu.ca). Instructions can be found here: https://technology.viu.ca/help/vpn

Level of impact: Service interruption. The above services will be unavailable during the two maintenance windows.
• Calls to the Nanaimo main switchboard (250.753.3245) will NOT work
• Calls to Call Pilot Voicemail (250.740.6345) will NOT work
• Emergency 6600 will work
• 1B and Code Blue will work
• 4 digit and 10 digit direct dialing will work
• Mitel (VoIP) phone users will not be impacted
Timing: Friday, December 15, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Preparation: Plan to access your voicemail prior to the maintenance window.

Level of impact: Service Interruption. All services listed will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes during the maintenance window.
Timing: Wednesday, December 13th 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm
Description: All servers are receiving monthly updates and must be restarted.
Preparation: Please close these systems and all applications connected to these systems before 5:00pm. Do not use these systems during the maintenance period.

Services that may be unavailable for up to 15 minutes between 5:00pm to 6:30pm:
- VIU email (including Outlook, webmail and public folders)
- VIULearn online courses (D2L)
- VIU websites (including www2.viu.ca, isweb.viu.ca sites, InVIU, student pay-for-print website, web.viu.ca sites, viuresidences.ca, mala.bc.ca sites, cycec.bc.ca)

- VIU databases (including Raisers Edge database, Checkbox Survey, Research Office app, and AquaAssist app).

Scheduled - What is impacted: VIU Email - IT is making a change to its antispam server to resolve mail flow issues.
Level of impact: Service Interruption. During the maintenance window external e-mail will be delayed. Internal e-mail will continue to function normally. No e-mail will be lost. External e-mail will be queued and will be delivered automatically at the conclusion of the maintenance window.
Timing: 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Monday December 4
Preparation: None required.
